Ancient World History/Social Studies (Period 6)

Course Description

 

CURRICULUM: History Alive Program & Teacher-generated materials.

Includes Textbook: History Alive! The Ancient World, Interactive Student Notebook, multimedia materials, lessons, and activities. The teacher will supplement this program with a variety of other units and materials, including Interact simulation games, i.e. Bones & Stones.

* New State Common Core Standards are being developed for Social Science and should be available sometime this year.

WORLD GEOGRAPHY/MAPS

EARLY HUMANKIND

Demonstrate an understanding of the main characteristics of prehistoric civilizations and Mesopotamia.

 

ANCIENT EGYPT

Demonstrate an understanding of the major characteristics of early civilizations of Africa.

 

ANCIENT INDIA (as time permits…)

Explain how civilization developed in the Indus River Valley.

 

ANCIENT CHINA

Demonstrate an understanding of major people and developments in the rise of ancient Chinese civilizations.

 

ANCIENT GREECE AND ISRAEL

Demonstrate an understanding of some of the ideas and sources that form the foundation of Western Civilization.

 

RISE AND FALL OF ANCIENT ROME

Demonstrate an understanding of the development of the Roman republic and the spread of the Roman empire.

Demonstrate an understanding of the lasting contributions of Roman civilization
