When should independent study be requested?

Students who must miss school for five days or more may sign an Independent Study Contract.  This contract will allow the student to be given credit for the days missed by completing assignments and returning the signed form to the office.  In addition to maintaining a good grade in school, this contract allows the school to collect some ADA (money from the state) for the absences.

Students may ride bikes, scooters, roller blades and skateboards to school as long as they do so in a responsible and safe manner. California State Law requires riders of wheeled vehicles to wear a helmet securely fastened to his/her head by means of a strap.  Students wishing to ridfe one of the above mentioned vehicles to school must complete and abide by the Skateboard/Bike/Scooter Use Contract.

What if it rains?

For parent information please be advised that there are many dry warm locations for students to wait for the start of their first class. Beginning at approximately 8:10 the gym and library are open for students to sit and visit quietly or do homework. Many teachers have also opened their rooms for these purposes. We have advised our students that this time period is not intended for vigorous, physical activity but lunch on rainy or exceeding cold days is eaten in assigned indoor locations. If the weather conditions at the lunch hour allow, student are released to spend the rest of the 40 minute period outside.
